Empowering & Engaging Teens
Social & Emotional Regulation Support for High School Students & Community Groups
Beyond Boxing provides an exclusive in-person program tailored for high school students, strategically crafted to reignite their enthusiasm and offer avenues for reconnection. Through a diverse range of skill-building activities, participants are empowered to rediscover their sense of self within the school community, presenting themselves confidently and empowered to both themselves and their peers.
In today's fast-paced world, teenagers encounter endless social and emotional challenges as they navigate through adolescence. Our program aims to equip them with crucial skills to handle stress, manage relationships, and regulate their emotions effectively. By nurturing these abilities early on, we empower teens to excel academically, personally, and socially, laying the groundwork for success in all areas of life.

Mentorship by Local Community Leaders
Our program will connect teens with relatable, local, community-focused leaders who are also small business owners in the area. Steve and Lena operate their business in North Geelong, and own their home in Corio.
This connection will create a sense of belonging and care among the participants, knowing that these leaders live and work in Geelong and are invested in the best interests of teens.
Cathartic Release
Boxing sessions will provide a safe outlet for the release of stored energy and emotions in the body. The visible impact of this cathartic release will include improved relaxation, self-assuredness, and openness to connecting with others.
Delivery of Boxing Sessions is based on a flexible approach that will meet the needs of the group in the moment.
Although the sessions are centred around boxing training, it's important to note that there is absolutely no combat involved. These sessions are carefully overseen and directed by Steve Moxon, a former 2-time World Champion from Geelong Boxing Club. Steve's captivating approach and skill in leading teens create a strong cornerstone for this program.
Encouraging Self Leadership Skills
The program's predictable structure and clear expectations will empower teens to encourage one another to adhere to guidelines.
We will actively look for, highlight and make specific mention of moments where teens demonstrate leadership skills, such as using their voices to positively influence peers and assisting in tasks such as equipment management. This recognition will encourage the continued embodiment of leadership qualities.
Mindfulness and Focus
Teens will learn how to focus better on tasks by practicing mindfulness and staying present in the moment. This helps them concentrate on what they're doing without getting distracted, leading to improved attention and clarity. By being more aware of their thoughts and surroundings, they can manage stress and handle challenges with increasing calmness and confidence.
Empowering Teens Through Mentorship and Boxing Sessions...
A Modern approach to social & emotional regulation
In addition to our unique blend of mentorship and boxing sessions, we recognize the importance of self-reflection in fostering personal growth and resilience among teenagers. That's why our program incorporates guidance on utilising self-reflection prompts effectively.
By encouraging teens to reflect on their experiences, emotions, and goals, we empower them to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their aspirations.
This introspective practice not only enhances their ability to navigate challenges but also reinforces the life skills and leadership qualities we aim to cultivate. Through self-reflection, teens can gain clarity, build resilience, and chart a course toward success both academically and personally.

Testimonials
“an immediate impact on our students”
We compiled a list of our most disengaged students from years 9 & 10, issues including truancy, behavioural and mental health issues. We entrusted Steve and Lena to assist in building confidence levels and the promotion of mental and physical health awareness.
They had an immediate impact on our students, delving into psychological and emotional awareness.
Within 10 minutes of a mindfulness session, Lena had engaged every single student sitting completely still in a meditation session, they were completely hooked. I was astounded at her ability to gain the respect and trust of our students so quickly.
As the sessions progressed the numbers of students attending each session grew from 14 to 24 students, this speaks for itself. Seeing the pure joy on the faces of our students was fantastic to be a part of.
Lena & Steve offer a program that engages and promotes self confidence. They are an absolute pleasure to deal with and truly invested in our students. Their enthusiasm and passion can be felt in the energy they bring into the room.

“what has occurred here, is young people actively engaging.”
In July 2023 Barwon Community Legal Service engaged Steve and Lena Moxon of Geelong boxing club to facilitate a five week PT boxing program for a group of young people attending The fOrT youth hub in the Geelong suburb of Norlane.
Steve and Lena were engaged as part of the Law for Life Skills Program with the aim to build legal capacity, strengthen pathways to community legal services for disadvantaged young people. From our experience of facilitating youth based activities, it is essential to have the group engaged at the onset to establish their connection, trust and participation. It is also integral to have key staff in attendance to ‘think on their feet’ and adapt activities to meet the needs and mood of the young cohort and Steve and Lena Moxon were able to engage with the group, adapting their approach as required.
Subsequent reports provided by fOrT staff conveyed that facilitators led the groups with utmost respect, supportive communication and clear boundaries, thereby cultivating a profound sense of appreciation for boxing as a skill. The program also instilled a keen understanding of the essential values of self-discipline and respect inherent in this practice.
During the five-week PT boxing program, staff noted a remarkable absence of aggression outside the premises; a notable change from the norm where such incidents were quite common previously during departure at the end of the evening.
This positive shift can be attributed to the affective facilitation of the PT boxing program and the mood established between the young people during the activity.
The approach adopted by all stakeholders, not only contributed to the success of the program, but has also left a lasting impact on the participant’s behaviours and attitudes beyond this LFLS youth activity.
Young people have since asked when the next program is starting and The fOrT management staff have reported positive and ‘mentoring style conversations’ occurring between participants and requests for another PT program with Steve and Lena.
Having 150 young people attend an organised activity over a five week duration is challenging; what has occurred here, is young people actively engaging.
It is also rare to experience such synergy between varied stakeholders and much of this outcome can be attributed to the approach applied by Steve and Lena Moxon and their ability to fully and meaningfully engage with the young participants.
I would highly recommend Steve and Lena Moxon of The Geelong Boxing Club; based on their ability to engage with young people with respect and meaningful connection; I would be happy to discuss our experience further at any time and answer any questions you might have.
