An Empowering Approach to Nutrition

What did you eat in the last 24 hours? You don’t have to be focused on weight loss to find this question compelling!

We took this pic earlier this year at @innout on our way to Vegas & we enjoyed any and every yummy thing on the menu🙂👏🏼 I don’t generally track everything I’m eating, but there is a time and a place for it for everyone. Whether you are looking to heal your gut, lift your energy or lose weight. When it comes to weight loss, planning ahead for the next 24 hours is the most POWERFUL tool you can begin with. ⠀
For YEARS I resisted this task & it was because in recording what I was eating, I was bringing even more attention to the foods I was depriving myself of.

What we resist – persists, right? So every time I tried with all my might to restrain from chocolate, biscuits and ice cream – all I wanted was those three things.

I resented writing down what I was supposed to eat in the next 24 hours because it just confirmed the restriction I was enforcing onto myself.

I was relying on will power and self loathing to drive my choices.

Somehow, in my mind, I had made eating healthy, wholesome food feel like a punishment. When my will power failed and I would give into urges and cravings, the junk food felt like self love. It was allowing. It was freedom.

What I have come to understand is that writing down what I’m going to eat for the next 24 hours has very little do with the list of foods and EVERYTHING to do with solidifying the integrity between my plan and my execution.

Writing what I am going to eat in the next 24 hours and seeing that through gives me an opportunity to affirm my personal power. I demonstrate self respect. I action my own intentions. I live with intention rather than out of reactivity.

It’s the same task. The mindset I bring to it is completely different. One is self deprecating and one is empowering. I’ll let you guess which is which 😉
