Better Together – The Strength of Team Moxon

Apr 24, 2017

Its dark. Its cold. The sun hasn’t even suggested that it might rise soon. As we pull up to the Front Gates of the Federal Mills Precinct, there are cars lining the street, drivers sitting, waiting. As we unlock the heavy front gate, the cars restart their engines and we all drive in to park in front of Geelong Boxing Club.

Everyone is still pretty quiet, everyone is likely to have thrown a coffee down their throat before leaving home, and I imagine we are all united in silently begging the caffeine to kick in.

But as we walk through the doors, and the lights turn on – the knowing smile on all of our faces spreads quickly. We know why we are here. We know who we are here for. We know how this morning will play out.

Over a month ago, we signed up to be part of the Team Moxon Training Camp. To support Steve Moxon in preparing for his second World Title Fight was an exciting opportunity we all jumped at. We are coming into the last few weeks of training together, and it is obvious that Steve’s commitment and dedication has paid off. He is looking fitter and faster and stronger each and every day. He speaks with such clarity and the look of determination in his eyes never waivers.

There have been many lessons to learn in training alongside a World Champion kickboxer as he prepares to step into the ring – however, the most powerful and obvious lesson has been the strength and power that lies in a positive circle of influence.

When putting together Team Moxon, we were not looking for a group of clones who would all conform to eating the same way, and training the same way and working towards the same benchmarks and goals. We put energy into manifesting a group of open minded, strong spirited individuals who would give the best of them selves to better the group.

That is exactly what we got. This training camp has seen an unlikely group of individuals come together and form a solid team. We are open and honest about our training, our commitment, the challenges we are overcoming and each week as we kicked, punched, run, skipped, lifted, drilled and sweat together, we have had the opportunity to not only find out about each other, but get to know ourselves. Committing to a training camp really challenges you to bring action to intention.

It brings to light the reality of your commitment and highlights the things that are in the way of you achieving your goals.

For most, the road to success is not easy. Its not a straight road – hell, its mostly not even a paved road!! It can feel like an uphill battle. However, with a positive circle of influence, the road uphill may still feel hard, but it is not lonely. Team Moxon shows up for each other. Team Moxon sets a good pace to help keep the energy high in the room, for each other. Team Moxon puts in the hard yards for that extra round, for each other.

Team Moxon came together with positive energy and the best intentions. We all come from different backgrounds, with different views, different priorities, different interests.

We are not necessarily ‘like minded people’.

It has been said that only dead fish will go with the flow. Over the past few weeks we definitely have not just mindlessly followed each other. We have different beliefs, different reasons for training. Steve’s training is so well thought out that it can be adapted and modified to suit each of our current levels of fitness, skill and needs. It is this diversity that makes Team Moxon dynamic. From day one of the training camp, each individual was given the freedom and respect to be themselves. This has meant that we have all been able to confidently bring all of ourselves to training – unfiltered, unedited, unreserved. We give 110% of ourselves to the group. This is what makes Team Moxon so strong.

With only a few weeks left before Steve steps into the ring – Team Moxon will show no sign of slowing down. We bring the best out in each other, and whilst the intensity of sessions is set to rise, so too will the energy and commitment of the group. Each individual will be digging deeper because their mate next to them is doing the same.

Let the countdown begin!
