Cancel Your Pity Party..& other tips to stay on track!
Mar 07, 2018Being part of Geelong Boxing Club family means I am completely committed to ensuring that Geelong Boxing Club is a space that runs on the energy and enthusiasm of its coaches and members.
Although we are dedicated to quality programming and fitting out our gym with world class equipment – I know that these things don’t matter without the right attitude driving them.
Building and maintaining strong, positive, supportive relationships between coaches and members is the foundation of our success at Geelong Boxing Club. We pride ourselves on being constantly told that we are the first gym that people have ever truly felt was like a home away from home.
I am passionate about sharing my energy and building positive momentum behind a community that trains not because they are necessarily trying to ‘change’ their body – but because they understand that being fit, strong and healthy allows you to engage with life as your best self – whatever that might look like and whoever that may be!
If you are feeling a little lost in your health and fitness journey, I find it useful to remember the following things:
1. Choose your attitude.
You only need to give your best on any given day – and your best will be different on any given day. Be kind to yourself. Be a cheerleader for your own progress and cut the pity party when things are less than perfect.
2.Be serious about not taking it too seriously.
Remember what your end goal is. If you are not aiming to compete at a high level – don’t put pressure on yourself like you are! It is ok to enjoy the journey and to do things in your own time. Attaching expectations to an unrealistic timeline is a recipe for disaster. Be serious about making changes and staying committed but don’t take it all too seriously!
3.It never gets easier.
To change it is absolutely necessary to be challenged. Don’t expect that training will magically become ‘easy’ – that never happens. As you become fitter and stronger you will be able to challenge your body even more! My experience has been that training always remains difficult, but my recovery is more efficient. Rather than hoping workouts will just get ‘easier’, get to know your body and the way in which you need to rest, refuel and recover in order to continue pushing it to reach its full potential!
