Great Balls of Fire !

At Geelong Boxing Club we are passionate about designing sessions that deliver results and are equally as committed to designing sessions that continue to be motivating because they are always different! You just never know what we might include in one of our Strength and Conditioning sessions to challenge you!

One of our most commonly utilised pieces of equipment is the Dead Ball. As the name suggests – they can be deadly, however they are simply called this because they are a dead weight with little to no bounce. They are designed to withstand being thrown around again and again which makes them a fun piece of equipment to work with – you can let loose on them!

There are many movements that can be performed using a Dead Ball – and as most of these movements are compound exercises it is an excellent and efficient way to improve strength and fitness in the same session. Dead Ball exercises recruit many major muscle groups and promote rapid shoulder, trunk and hip flexion. This ensures you are building strength and stability through your trunk and midline which in turn will improve your performance in ALL other exercises!

Our head boxing and kick boxing coach Steve Moxon also utilises Dead Balls within his sessions for his fighters to promote explosive power and improve the speed of shoulder extension.

Dead balls vary in weight and offer challenges for all levels of fitness and ability. When used in our conditioning sessions they DEFINITELY get the heart rate up quickly! This is because the movement patterns created using Dead Balls are full body exercises making it valuable for members with weight loss goals!

You will slam, throw, lift, roll, push ( and probably feel like kicking) your Dead Ball – and we can guarantee you will learn to love to hate these bad boys!
