Why Yoga at Geelong Boxing Club?

The answer is simple – its completely badass! Dont be fooled into thinking that Yoga is not for you. It is for everyone (and you should make sure you dont miss out!)

At Geelong Boxing Club we are passionate about ensuring we are building a healthy, happy community. We are equally as passionate about providing our members with world class service and ensuring that our programming enhances peak performance. Our group sessions are fast paced, dynamic, challenging and always buzzing with high energy!

Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned professional it is important that you have a training program that is well balanced, effective and efficient. Of course, this will vary depending on the needs of each individual. A professional fighter in the middle of a gruelling training camp will obviously have a week in the gym that looks VERY different to a working mother trying to keep her energy levels high (and de stressing too!).

It is very important to us that members understand that we dont believe in a ‘one size fits all approach’. Our group sessions are designed in such a way that we can modify them on the go to suit the needs of each member.

However – there is one thing that we truly believe EVERYONE will benefit from and EVERYONE should be doing!

…Yoga.

Yoga will make you stronger!
We LOVE lifting weights consistently in our gym. We believe it to be absolutely necessary in building strong, functional bodies  that look good and feel good. However, Yoga will add another element to building a strong body! Consistent yoga practise will improve overall body stability. Under utilised muscles will be brought into action as you move your body in new, challenging ways and hold poses that are often a surprising challenge. Yoga is often harder than it looks! If you are up for the challenge of trying something new – your overall strength and functional performance will be improved!

You will have better control over your body!

Consistent yoga practise will improve your overall flexibility and balance. This will improve the way in which you move your body. Your joints and muscles will undoubtedly be given the attention and time they need after a week of hard training. Ensuring that you are investing time in maintaining flexibility and mobility will have a HUGE positive impact on your ability to perform well in the gym. Better sessions in the gym will result in better performance outside of the gym!

You will gain a competitive edge!

Believe it or not, we truly believe that Yoga will give you a competitive edge. Lets use professional fighters as an example. All fighters train hard. The glory of having your hand held in the air as you are declared the winner of a fight is motivating beyond measure. So what separates a champion from the rest ?

The mind.

The ability to centre yourself and focus will ultimately have a huge impact on how well you are able to perform. To fight well your mind and your body have to be aligned. If you panic in the ring you will lose. Strengthening your ability to align your mind, your breath, your body is actually pretty badass. It will give you a competitive edge as you train yourself to be able to remain completely in the moment, focus your attention on the task at hand and clear your mind of unhelpful thought patterns.

We encourage ALL of our members to take advantage of YOGA SESSIONS at Geelong Boxing Club regardless of their overall fitness goal. Ensure that you are training smarter, not harder. More of the same is never the answer to enhancing your overall performance or boosting your results.

Yoga could be the missing link to your current program.

See you on the matt.
