Member Spotlight: Emily

Jan 12, 2019

Our beautiful member Emily is a bright, vibrant 24 year old. She throws all of her energy and effort behind anything she does and encourages anyone around her to do the same. Emily is participating in our private group ‘The Commitment Diaries’ and shared this post in our private group.

We LOVED that she reminded us all that the smallest gestures can have the biggest impact. You never know what sort of day someone is having, and so even the smallest efforts to encourage someone can make a world of difference.

We are really proud of the way in which you are building resilience and self confidence in and out of the gym Emily!

EMILYS JOURNEY

I just want to put something positive out there.

Back in August I went to Hawaii for my third time. I organised with my boyfriend, cousin and his girlfriend to hike ‘Koko head’ which was apparently ‘easy’ and we were told that you could do it in ‘20 minutes’.

I knew it was going to be hard, but I didn’t want to tell the rest of the crew that! Upon arrival you can see a bloody high as f*** mountain with 1048 steps!

I had second thoughts.

This hike was physically challenging and mentally challenging. We all motivated each other to keep going, and pushed our selves!

I could see the top only a few more steps, so I decided to push my self, make it to the top, despite the fact that I was having an asthma attack (not really – but it felt like it) and about to throw up!

We all agreed it was the best feeling getting to the top!

(Coming down was another story, it involved broken finger nails, crawling and a few trips and slips along the way!!)

I felt so accomplished and amazing after pushing myself and motivating each other to do something rewarding.

A few weeks ago a had that exact feeling.

I was in a Strength and Conditioning class. I was pushed to the brink! My brain was saying “you’re done, enough!”

Geelong Boxing Club was running their 12 days of Xmas Challenge which was an extra workout at the end of the session that we all did together. On that day the 10 burpees I had to do broke me! Then I had to do a 1 minute plank hold!

My knees buckled and I was ready to throw in the towel.

I was on the verge of tears, it wasn’t until our coach Steve and everyone around me in the session kept encouraging me to hold on that I pushed through my emotions and I did it!

Physically I felt amazing and dead at the same time!  I began to lay down to compose myself and began to cry. I just couldn’t help myself.

I just wanted to say this gym is like family and because everyone motivates each other to do their best, we can always challenge the negative thoughts we have and push through to feel really proud of ourselves.

Keep motivating each other, the smallest things have the biggest impact.
