Our community is AMAZING. The level of support, encouragement and positivity is something we are so proud of. Yasmin has been training at Geelong Boxing Club alongside her partner Ben and shares how finding a place they both felt comfortable to train in has made a world of difference!
We joined Geelong Boxing Club because one of our friends Sam Lloyd from the western bulldogs told us about it because he went to a boxing session when he was in Geelong and really recommended it.
I was training at a popular group training gym and was not enjoying the clicky environment and the 40 people packed into a very small space! You had to put your name down for classes a week ahead and that just didnt suit my schedule or lifestyle! My partner Ben wouldn’t go to that gym with me either because he thought that it wasn’t ‘manly’ enough! Geelong Boxing Club ticked all the boxes we needed. I mostly enjoy that Ben and I now get to train together but we also do it with a group of friendly, happy people.
Our fav sessions are box and burn and the High Voltage Strength and Conditioning session on Friday morning because everyone gets to choose which muscle group they want to work for strength training and then we complete a huge cardio conditioning circuit together – its the best HIIT workout!
Our current goals are to limit our alcohol intake. We train four time a week at Geelong Boxing Club and knowing that we will see Coach Steve Moxon when we get there is really motivating. We have also signed up for the running group and are going to be training for a half marathon together. The coaches and people there inspire you. Earlier in the year the 10km fun run showed that. I nearly tear up thinking of one of the members Emily crossing the line last time – it was a big moment for her and we were all so happy for her… and now shes aiming for 21km!
Thank you SO much for sharing your experience Yasmin! We commend your commitment to morning training! Even as the weather has become significantly cooler over Winter in Geelong – your motivation has remained! We cannot wait to see you and Ben cross the finish line of the Melbourne Half Marathon together in a few months!
