The 4 people in my TRIBE

Feb 07, 2019

Over the past decade, I have built my very own ‘tribe’. Your ‘tribe’ are the people that you don’t have to censor yourself with, the people you trust and love with every inch of your soul.

My tribe consists of 4 people.

Just 4.

Two of these people I have known for a decade and two I have only really connected within the last few years. Three out of 4 I speak to daily… and one I rarely get to speak to, but the love between us couldn’t be changed with any length of time or distance between us.

These are the people that I am open and honest with, that I believe see the value in who I am. These are the people I love fiercely, without having to hold back. I feel that I am always enough for them. Always.

I am grateful that these four people have crossed paths with me … and just now I am realising that I met them all in the context of health and fitness. My training gifted me with these people in my life in one way or another.

I believe that one of life’s greatest gifts is finding that you have people in your life that see you as you are, and love you not only for the strengths they can see in you, but for the vulnerability you show them.

I know i’m not alone in having met some of the most inspirational and motivational people in my life within the four walls of a gym. The people that I have met don’t actually have a huge impact on my personal health and fitness – their support reaches other corners of my life. I truly think that meeting them in the gym is what has made our friendships so very strong.

When you take part in a group session, the people by your side actually get a chance to see the real you. As you train together – you have no choice but to become a sweaty mess. You lose your composure and come undone – and build yourself back up all within the space of one hour. Your mates training by your side will be the witness to moments when you achieve personal bests and also when you have an off day. Regardless, they are the ones there by your side, cheering you on as you invest time and energy in your health and happiness.

Often, it is not until you begin your health and fitness journey that you form strong, supportive relationships with people who can understand what you are going through. At Geelong Boxing Club, we see bonds being formed between members daily. We recognise the knowing smiles as we all acknowledge that although our health and fitness journeys are completely unique, we relate to each others commitment to be the best that we can be.

Belonging to a community of like minded people can be the support system that you need to ensure you remain motivated and positive about reaching your goals.

Reach out and find that community of people that are willing to take the time to understand your health and fitness goals and why they are important to you. You will be uplifted by the positive energy !

…You just might meet the people that are missing from your Tribe!
