The Holistic Approach of Our Teen Boxing Program
Mar 19, 2024At Geelong Boxing Club, we recognise that teenagers are at a critical stage of development where they're not just exploring physical abilities but also shaping their sense of self-confidence and emotional regulation. Our Teen Boxing Program isn't just about burning off energy; it's a comprehensive approach to nurturing teenagers' holistic well-being. Co-developed by Lena Moxon, a former classroom teacher turned co-owner and director, our program is finely tuned to address the multifaceted needs of teenagers.
One key element we've incorporated into our program is vestibular stimulation. This deliberate choice stems from our understanding of the vital role sensory input plays in teenagers' development. The vestibular system, located in the inner ear, regulates balance, spatial orientation, and coordination by detecting movement and changes in head position. Through boxing activities, teenagers engage in dynamic movements like footwork, dodging, and weaving, which challenge their vestibular system and enhance their proprioception and spatial awareness. These improvements not only benefit their physical skills but also sharpen their cognitive abilities and emotional regulation.
Vestibular stimulation isn't just a buzzword for us; it's a cornerstone of our program philosophy. By providing teenagers with rich sensory experiences through boxing, we aim to foster not only physical fitness but also mental resilience and emotional well-being. Our approach is grounded in research-backed benefits, including enhanced cognitive function, improved emotional regulation, and increased overall well-being.
At Geelong Boxing Club, we invite teenagers to join us in exploring the transformative power of boxing. Our Teen Boxing Program offers a supportive and motivating environment where teenagers can discover their strengths, build confidence, and develop essential life skills. If you're ready to empower your teenager to thrive both inside and outside the gym, we invite you to learn more about our program and join us for weekly sessions tailored specifically for teenagers aged 13-18.
