The Reality in North Geelong for Teens
Feb 17, 2025
Too many adults think the way to "help" teens is by controlling them, dictating their every move, forcing compliance, and shoving outdated rules down their throats.
They mistake obedience for growth, submission for success. They think structure should mean control, that discipline should mean suppression. And then they’re shocked when teens disengage, push back, or spiral into self doubt, rebellion, or apathy.
If control actually worked, we wouldn’t be seeing what’s happening right now:
📉 Nearly 40% of young people in the Geelong region report feeling disconnected from school and their community.
😞 Rates of anxiety and depression among teens have doubled in the past decade, with North Geelong youth disproportionately affected.
🚨 Youth unemployment in the region sits at nearly 15%, leaving many young people feeling like their future is out of their hands.
When teens feel powerless, they stop trying. When they believe everything is up to luck, circumstance, or some authority figure, they either shut down or explode.
That’s why Beyond Boxing does the opposite. We don’t control teens. We show them how to take control of themselves.
No Excuses, Just Accountability
Everything about this program forces young people to own their actions.
🥊 You don’t train? You don’t improve.
🥊 You ignore instruction? You fall behind.
🥊 You make excuses? Nothing changes.
But this isn’t punishment, it’s proof. When teens see that their effort creates their results, something shifts. They start to believe in themselves because they have no choice but to take responsibility.
Beyond Boxing Works Because It’s Real
📌 90% of our teens say they feel more confident after just a few weeks of training.
📌 Over 75% report improvements in their ability to handle stress, frustration, and setbacks.
📌 Many of our participants who struggled with school engagement find themselves more focused and determined, because they’ve learned how to work through challenges.
We don’t tell teens to behave. We teach them to think, decide, and adapt. We don’t give them hollow motivation, we prove that effort creates results. And we don’t waste time on the illusion that we can control them, because we’d rather see them take control of themselves.
North Geelong’s Youth Need Ownership, Not Oversight
So if you think the best way to work with teens is to keep them in check, limit their choices, and micromanage their behaviour, you’re part of the problem.
Teens don’t need control. They need responsibility, challenge, and the undeniable proof that they are in charge of their own outcomes.
That’s what Beyond Boxing delivers. And that’s why it works.
