The Reason Parents Need A Village too : Overcoming disconnect, loneliness and anxiety

Aug 25, 2019

Raising a family has never come with a guidebook – but in the click culture of 2019, does anybody else ever feel completely overwhelmed by all of the mixed messages thrown at us as parents every day?

It often feels like everyone has an opinion, an angle, a philosophy about parenting and that they are fixed firmly to their beliefs. Whats more, it can sometimes feel like you need to be ready to justify your position as a parent at a moments notice (often to strangers in the most unlikely places!!)

We are all for parents being well read, well informed and conscious as they are raising their precious little ones in this big world. We take our responsibility as parents seriously – its an honour we never take for granted (even during this teething, tantrum trying toddler stage!)

We believe it takes a village to raise a child. It also takes that village to best support the parents that feel an overwhelming sense of duty to their child. As parents we do all that we can within our control to be the very best version of ourselves so that we might be able to provide our children with everything we believe that they need and deserve. At the end of a long day when the tv is on too loud, the toys are everywhere, dinner is uneaten and your patience is paper thin – it can feel like despite your best efforts, you have fallen short. We all have those moments. Often. Raising a family is beautiful chaos. We need a village too.

It is for this very reason we feel compelled to create opportunities and experiences for our community that bring families together. Our family fun day aims to expose children to health and fitness in a fun, supportive environment.

But here is the truth – the deeper motivation for us is to create a moment in time where families within our community can come together and share the experience of raising a family. This morning we came together to be active with our children. We all looked out for each others’s kids. We made sure they were safe, we gave them reasons to smile, we modelled positive relationships and interactions. We ate a healthy breakfast together and watched on as kids of all ages played together.

Speak to any new parent and they will tell you that the hardest part of raising a child – is the loneliness you often feel. When you are raising a family it is common to become disconnected from the social circles of your past. Our family fun day created an opportunity for entire families to share an experience with their community. Connecting online and reaching out to friends over the internet simply isnt good enough. We need to spend time in each others presence. We need to look each other in the eyes when we talk. We need to embrace and laugh and feel comfortable enough to speak our truth should we need support.

We will continue to invest in our community and look to create shared experiences for families.
That is our commitment to our community.

THANK YOU TO THE BEAUTIFUL FAMILIES THAT JOINED US TODAY. THESE MOMENTS IN TIME DO NOT EXIST WITHOUT YOUR WILLINGNESS TO SHARE YOUR TIME AND ENERGY. WE LOVE YOU AND APPRECIATE YOU.
