When School Feels Like Too Much : Overwhelm & Anxiety
Mar 17, 2025
Not every teen who struggles with school is "lazy" or "defiant." Some are drowning in anxiety, perfectionism, or learning challenges that make school feel like an impossible task.
Caregivers often ask: How do I get them to push through?
📍 Why It’s Happening:
Fear of failure: Some students avoid school because they fear embarrassment or judgment.
Post-COVID impact: Many of today’s teens spent critical developmental years isolated from structured learning and social interaction.
Burnout & mental load: The pressure to keep up, fit in, and perform can make school feel like a constant weight rather than a place for growth.
🔹 What Helps?
Shifting the focus to self-belief: Instead of making attendance the main goal, start with helping them feel capable again.
Building resilience outside of school: Success in low-stakes, structured activities (like boxing training) can help rebuild confidence before tackling academics.
Alternative pathways: Some teens thrive in non-traditional learning environments. Exploring Navigator (Department of Education), vocational programs, or work-integrated learning can provide different ways forward.
💡 How Beyond Boxing Helps:
We help young people rebuild resilience, develop structure, and experience success in a way that feels safe. Many teens who struggle in school find that through movement and mentorship, they start believing in themselves again, and that belief carries over into other areas of life.
If school feels like too much, starting somewhere else might be the way forward.
