Why Women Need to Lift Weights
Apr 04, 2017Why Women Need to Lift Weights
At Geelong Boxing Club we are passionate about delivering fun, motivating sessions – but are equally as passionate about empowering and educating our members too.
Weight Training for women has become more accepted and commonplace in gyms across Geelong, however we are still regularly meeting new members who are tentative to incorporating weight training into their weekly routine. It is our belief that once you understand the benefits, and experience the results – you will be hooked!
It is important to first note that any exercise program should take into account your health history, current activity levels and personal goals. It is important that a coach understands these things before suggesting an exercise program for you. All things considered, generally speaking, a well balanced week of training should incorporate at least two weight sessions each week.
Women of all ages should be incorporating weight training into their weekly exercise plan. Our group sessions at Geelong Boxing Club are programmed and designed to ensure you are performing a variety of movements correctly and safely throughout the week. Each session offers variations for each exercise to suit your level of strength and fitness and our world class coaches will ensure that they guide you through the progressions of each exercise as you become fitter and stronger!
For women who have never lifted weights before, a personal trainer is a vital resource when it comes to weight training. It may be worth speaking to our team about booking a series of one on one personal training sessions to ensure you are performing the movements correctly to avoid injury and maximise your time and efforts.
Many women come to the gym to feel good – but they also want to look good too! To work towards building a tight, toned body you need to develop and maintain your lean muscle mass. Weight Training is the most effective way to do this!
The more lean muscle mass you have, the more energy your body burns through at rest. Put simply, the more muscle mass you have the faster your metabolism will be! More muscle should lead to a faster metabolism!
The other HUGE benefit of weight training is related to bone density. Women lose a significant percentage of bone density each decade. The onset of Osteoporosis is common in women during and post Menopause and is something that women should be aware of and concerned about. By incorporating weight training into your lifestyle, you are providing your body with the stimulation it needs to keep your bones strong. Consistently lifting weights assists in increasing and maintaining bone density – pick up the weights ladies!
Finally, we have personally experienced and see every day in our members that weight training will increase your overall strength and endurance. A strong body is an invaluable asset that should not be underestimated! Whether you are carrying shopping bags, your children or a washing basket, when you have a fit, strong body – these simple daily tasks will not challenge your body or leave you feeling drained and fatigued! Weight Training does not have to just be about how you look – it can be the tool you need to build a healthy, strong body. Build your body into one that has unlimited energy to handle day to day jobs and activities!
