You really should know the whole story…

Feb 05, 2020

We have a soft spot for beginners boxing sessions – because thats how we met!

Yup, thats right. The time line is blurry, but about ten years ago I didnt know how to put hand wraps on. Steve was a young, eager coach juggling an international fight career and a full time job in a boxing gym. All these years later, we haven’t forgotten what it was like to get to know each other in the gym in Sydney. Steve was quite literally the catalyst for me making and keeping promises to myself. His coaching and his sessions gave me opportunities to realise that I could set standards for myself – and keep those promises. I probably drove him a little bit crazy with the way I dropped my hands (I still tend to do that when Im tired!) but he witnessed the way I kept working until it was clear I was willing and able to outwork everyone in the room. My self worth and self confidence was born in front of a boxing bag. I got to discover my internal strength and grit and the potential I had to learn and grow when I was willing to just give things a go. It was in front of a boxing bag that I realised I didn’t need external validation. I knew who I was and what I was capable of. I took that spark of knowledge out into the world with me and let it light the fire that saw my career and my relationships burn bright. I claimed my space in the world like I claimed my space in front of the bag.

THIS IS WHY I AM SO PASSIONATE ABOUT ENCOURAGING BEGINNERS TO STAND IN FRONT OF A BOXING BAG AND JUST GIVE IT A GO!

A NEW BEGINNER BOXING TECH SESSION HAS BEEN ADDED TO OUR GROUP TRAINING TIMETABLE : WEDNESDAY 6:30-7:00PM

FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART, I HOPE YOU GIVE YOURSELF THE CHANCE TO TRY SOMETHING NEW. TAKE THE SUPPORT THAT IS THERE FOR YOU AND EXPERIENCE HOW TRANSFORMATIVE IT CAN BE TO ALLOW YOURSELF TO STEP OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE AND INTO YOUR POTENTIAL.

Lets be honest – it is highly unlikely you will become a professional boxer. I never did. I never had any intention to! Thats not why the majority of us at Geelong Boxing Club join in on group boxing sessions. The investment in our health and fitness and exploration of who we really are when we allow ourselves to be a little less composed is why we keep coming back to the bag.

I cant wait to see you give it a go.
If not now, when?
If not now – maybe never.

Take this as your sign that its time to give boxing a go.

…you cant end up marrying the coach though. He is mine!

Much love,
