Kids Boxing at Geelong Boxing Club
Building Confidence and Connection
Â
At Geelong Boxing Club, we understand that boxing is an individual sport that allows kids to train at their own pace and intensity. Each child has the opportunity to shine without the pressure of competing against others’ skill levels. We start with the basics, teaching proper punches, footwork, and physical conditioning, ensuring a solid foundation for their future growth.
Â
In today’s world, where screens often replace real connections, our Kids Boxing Program goes beyond physical training. We’re committed to restoring connection through real time, embodied experiences that foster genuine interactions among peers.
Â
Padwork: Building Trust and Presence
During padwork, kids communicate nonverbally, tuning into each other’s movements and responding in sync. This active form of listening and trust building helps them develop essential relational skills. In our gym, there’s no hiding behind screens, the immediacy of these interactions brings a level of presence that is invaluable.
Â
The Ritual of Touching Gloves: A Moment of Connection
Simple rituals, like touching gloves between sets, serve a deeper purpose. It’s more than boxing etiquette; it’s a moment of eye contact and mutual respect, reminding children of the importance of real human connection. In an increasingly virtual world, these small gestures create warmth and camaraderie.
Â
Real Time Connection, In Person, and In Community
By engaging in these real time interactions, kids reconnect with essential skills that the digital age has taken from them, trust, empathy, and emotional presence. Our Kids Boxing Program is not just about physical strength; it’s a restorative practice that teaches children how to engage meaningfully with their peers and the world around them.
The impact we see among our young members is profound.
They build camaraderie, confidence, and a sense of belonging in an era where disconnection is becoming the norm.
What We Value
-
Consistency & Co regulation: One voice, one structure, one set of expectations, so kids can feel secure.
-
Respect & Relationship: Your child is more than a participant, they're part of our community.
-
Strength from the Inside Out: Fitness is just the beginning. What matters most is who they become in the process.

5-8 Year Olds Tuesdays Sessions
More About Kids Boxing at Geelong Boxing Club
A trauma informed, movement based program for 5–12 year olds
We’re not here to turn kids into fighters, we’re here to help them feel stronger in their bodies, more confident in themselves, and more connected to the world around them.
At Geelong Boxing Club, our Kids Boxing program is intentionally designed for children aged 5–12 to build physical fitness, emotional regulation, and social connection without the pressure of competition or contact.
Whether your child is full of energy and needs an outlet, or is struggling with confidence and needs a boost, we’ve created a safe space where they can show up as they are and grow from there.
Why Boxing Works for Kids
Boxing is a powerful way for kids to:
-
Release stress and stored energy in a safe, structured way
-
Learn to pause, focus, and listen to instructions
-
Develop coordination, rhythm, and body awareness
-
Practice emotional regulation under gentle pressure
-
Build confidence and resilience through progress over time
Research shows that movement based learning, especially when paired with co-regulation from trusted adults improves executive functioning, emotional control, and self esteem in children. That’s why we intentionally integrate structure, routine, and relationship building into every session.
What to Expect in Class
Every class is developmentally appropriate and includes:
-
Bodyweight movement and warm up games
-
Shadow boxing, bag work, and pad drills
-
Foundational skills: stance, footwork, jab, cross, hook
-
Team based activities and focus challenges
-
Regulated rest and breath practices
NO SPARRINGÂ is ever involved. Instead, we focus on skill development, fun, and safe expression.
We separate our classes into age groups (5–8 and 9–12) to ensure each child feels seen, supported, and stretched in the right ways.
Who’s Leading These Sessions?
Lena Moxon is a former school teacher, a qualified child & adolescent mental health practitioner, and a mum. Her sessions are trauma informed, attachment aware, and grounded in evidence about how kids grow and thrive. She creates safety through routine, emotional attunement, and relational support.
Steve Moxon is a 2x World Champion Kickboxer, youth mentor, and head coach with over 15 years’ experience. He brings energy, clear expectations, and a calm presence that kids gravitate toward, especially those who find traditional sports overwhelming.
Together with the occasional support of their 6 year old son Tyson they deliver sessions that feel more like belonging than just another activity.
